Spring is the season of all things new. That will be especially true when it comes to the 2024 Texas Two-Step, which is swinging into action earlier this year with a new date and new venue.
The second edition of the casual two-person team competition will be held March 22-24 at White Bluff Resort in Whitney. The multiday event is open to all TGA members with an up-to-date WHS Handicap Index® and features gross and net flights for men’s, women’s and mixed teams.
Changing the date and site of the Texas Two-Step accomplishes several important objectives: to give TGA members something to look forward to early in the year, longer daylight hours to accommodate a bigger field, and a location that is easily accessible to a wider audience.
“We already have a fantastic late summer event in the Texas Shamble, so we wanted to move things around so there would be a big Fun Golf event to start the season and give our members something to get excited about,” said Brian Fry, TGA Foundation/Outreach Manager. “We also wanted to get one of our prominent events closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the White Bluff Resort is a perfect fit. It has two great golf courses, and it is centrally located, so we feel like more players from around the state will be able to attend.”
The TGA introduced the Texas Two-Step in 2023 to provide members with another multiday tournament experience in a relaxed environment. One of the unique features of the new event is its creative format which is welcoming to golfers of all skill levels. As the name hints at, the 36-hole event is actually two different tournaments in one, a two-person best ball on one day and a two-person scramble on the other.
The inaugural event was held last fall at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, where members got together on a great course to compete and have a good time.
“We had a lot of positive feedback from the players about the tournament last year,” Fry said. “Riverhill was a wonderful host, but we’re very excited to have the opportunity to conduct the Texas Two-Step at White Bluff Resort. Moving the tournament to a different time of the year and a different part of the state will enable us to make it bigger and better.”
Situated along the shores of Lake Whitney, about 15 miles west of Hillsboro, White Bluff Resort spans 3,450 acres and features two 18-hole courses – the Old and the New – both of which were designed by 13-time PGA Tour winner Bruce Lietzke. Named after the two most famous courses at St Andrews Links in Scotland, the Old Course was the first to open in 1992, followed by the New Course in 1998. Both courses recently underwent major renovation projects, which included rebuilding and resurfacing all greens and bunkers, as well as upgrading drainage and irrigation systems.
Registration for the 2024 Texas Two-Step opened on Jan. 25 and will close when the maximum field limit of 50 teams (100 players) has been reached. The registration fee is $640 per two-person team (TGA members only) and includes a practice round on Friday, March 22, followed by a reception and welcome dinner, two competition rounds with grab-and-go breakfast, tee gifts, and prizes.
