Some of the best female amateur golfers from across the country and around the world will soon be headed to Texas.
Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio will be the host site for the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball from May 11-15. The ninth edition of the national championship will showcase a starting field of 64 sides (128 players) competing in 36 holes of stroke play qualifying May 11-12 to determine the 32 sides that will advance to the match play portion of the championship May 13-15.
Admission to the championship is free and spectators are encouraged to attend. The five days at Oak Hills will be a wonderful opportunity to watch these elite players compete for a national title, while also enjoying the experience of walking the fairways of one of the most historic courses in Texas.
Oak Hills Country Club is one of the oldest private member-owned country clubs in the country. Originally founded in 1922 as the Alamo Country Club, Oak Hills was designed by premier architect A.W. Tillinghast, whose vision of beauty and challenging play is enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. Alamo Country Club ceased operations during World War II and the course reopened as Oak Hills Country Club in 1946.
The U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball will be the second USGA championship held at Oak Hills. The club previously hosted the 2001 U.S. Junior Amateur and has been chosen as the host site for the 2028 U.S. Senior Amateur. Oak Hills has also been a long-time supporter of the Texas Golf Association and has hosted 11 TGA championships over the years, including four Texas Amateurs, three Women’s Texas Amateurs, two Texas Senior Amateurs, as well as the Texas Mid-Amateur and Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play.
Additionally, the Tillinghast gem has also tested the world’s best players on the PGA Tour. Oak Hills has hosted 24 Texas Open Championships, the 1987 debut of the Tour Championship, which was then known as the Nabisco Championship, and the PGA Tour Champions’ AT&T Championship from 2002-2010.
Oak Hills Country Club is sure to be a great stage for this year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball. It will also provide a terrific atmosphere for Texas golf fans to watch the world’s best amateurs compete for a prestigious national championship.
