Located 32 miles southwest of midtown Manhattan in Edison, N.J., and overlooking the Watchung Mountains, Plainfield Country Club, alongside Echo Lake Country Club, is the site of the 10th U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship May 17–21. This photograph, published in the March 1932 issue of Golf Illustrated, features the ninth green and clubhouse. The same year, Plainfield hosted the Met Amateur, won by T.S. Tailer Jr. Designed by Donald Ross in 1921, the course was restored by Gil Hanse starting in the late 1990s and finally completed in 2015. Hanse recaptured Ross’ famous greenside runoffs and beguiling bunkers. The club, a founding club of the MGA, hosted the 1978 U.S. Amateur and 1987 U.S. Women’s Open, and is the future site of the 2031 U.S. Senior Women’s Open and 2038 U.S. Senior Open.
