The MGA Foundation, the MGA’s charitable arm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Maury Povich to its Board of Directors. The MGA Foundation is dedicated to growing the game of golf in the Met Area and supporting the MGA’s mission to champion, invest in, and advance the game of golf for the future of the Met Area golf community.
“We are delighted to welcome Maury Povich to our foundation’s Board of Directors,” says Ned Zachar, president of the MGA and chair of the MGA Foundation. “Maury is a tremendous ambassador for the game and our mission to impact lives through golf, and we’re eager to work with him in his new capacity.”
Povich has been a longtime supporter of the MGA Foundation, and in his new role, he will help guide the foundation’s programs, support fundraising initiatives, and work with fellow board members to further enhance the foundation’s reach and impact.
Povich retired from hosting his daytime talk show, Maury, in 2022 after 31 years. An avid golfer, Povich is a member of Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. He qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in 2000, where he advanced to match play.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Povich to the board, and we look forward to working with him to grow the game, specifically through GOLFWORKS – a program he’s championed over its 30-year history,” MGA Foundation Director Johanna Gavin says.
The MGA Foundation, founded in 1991, is the charitable vehicle for growing the game of golf in the Met Area and provides opportunities on and off the golf course for individuals from all communities. The MGA Foundation’s initiatives include the GOLFWORKS student-intern program; junior competitions and youth golf access; caddie initiatives, including annual Caddie Academies; adaptive golf programming; and support of local and national programs.
