Jim Cardea started a new law firm last year after being with his prior firm for 22 years. His new firm, Baird Mandalas Brockstedt Federico & Cardea, has offices in Delaware and Baltimore, and Columbia, Maryland. They specialize in medical malpractice and mass torts. Frances Fato Cardea remains the controller at the Aspen Hill Club in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she has worked for over 30 years. The past two summers, they have been enjoying spending time at their beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware. They have met up with several WMC alums at the beach including Eric Landgraf ’87 and Kim O’Dea Landgraf ’87, Tom Paranzino’82 and Kathy Marvel Paranzino ’85, Dave Ferguson, Marc Bouchard ’90, Jon Hawkins, and Ann Kangas ’90. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Jim and his brother held the annual Dr. Don Cardea Memorial Golf Tournament, where several alumni participated. Jim and Frances are just a year away from being empty nesters as their youngest daughter will be starting her senior year in high school. Their two older daughters have graduated from college and are out of the house living in the real world.
Terry Dripps Grothmann is in her 16th year of teaching preschool. She and her husband, Bob Grothmann ’90, have been traveling as often as possible now that both of their sons are college graduates and their daughter is beginning her junior year at the College of Charleston. They keep in touch with several friends from WMC.
Patrick Dail took a mid-career gap year during 2022 to focus on a couple of bucket list experiences. He took a summer literature class at the University of Edinburgh, went deep sea fishing in Cuba, and is finishing his dissertation on supervisors and performance feedback. Pat has lived in New York City for 17 years, but is currently in job search mode and is planning his return to Maryland.
Chris Dolch and Jen Manger Dolch, M.S. ’96 are loving their new house and new lives in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Jen retired from teaching after 33 years and Chris continues to run his business from home. Both of their sons are married and living in Maryland. Chris and Jen miss seeing their two beautiful granddaughters but try to visit often. They spend much of their free time with Dave Bell and Laurie Vozella-Bell ’87, who have also moved to Mount Pleasant. Bill Desciak and his family live nearby as well, and when Rich McCaughey ’90 and Barb Pierantozzi-McCaughey visited, they all got together.
Maria Filshie Douglas and Dave Douglas ’87 have been spending their free time between Maryland, Florida, and Aruba. They are still living in Easton, Maryland. They own a property in Aruba that they visit often and rent out when they are not there. Their oldest daughter is in graduate school in Baltimore and their other daughter just moved from Florida to Kansas City for work. Maria and Dave just celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary in New Orleans. They have several trips planned over the next year with many WMC alumni.
As for me, Mary O’Hara Zorbach, life is good! My son has graduated from the University of Maryland and is working in the D.C. area as a civil engineer. My daughter is a junior at the University of Delaware. My husband and I are also now property owners in South Carolina! We built a house in Pawleys Island and are spending as much time as we can down south, but haven’t moved there permanently yet. Hopefully in the next few years we will be full-time South Carolina residents. Pawleys Island is just a little north of Mount Pleasant, and we plan to spend a lot of time with the Bells and Dolches. This past December, I spent a week in Aruba with Maria Filshie Douglas. It was an amazing week of sun and fun! Hopefully this summer, I’ll see several WMC friends at home in Maryland, in Bethany Beach, and down in South Carolina!
