By: Kendall David, Executive Director of Community Engagement
During the 2022-2023 school year, the Goose Creek CISD Community Engagement team launched Goose Talks: Listen, Learn, Launch. This was a community feedback process using ThoughtExchange, which gathered information to form goals based on the feedback.
Last year, the community’s feedback launched systematic change for our district, such as developing a system to ensure grades are entered on time, opening Saturday sessions to test for SPED, developing a student committee to evaluate food options in our cafeteria, increasing the visibility of our bullying report system, evaluating curriculum and testing timelines, and implementing SHAC goals for lunch process to increase the amount of time to eat lunch.
This year, starting in January, Goose Talks will continue! Our team will invite the community into our buildings for roundtable discussions, facility tours, staff and student panels, talks with our Superintendent, and more!
This committee serves as a bridge between community members and decision-makers, ensuring that the voices of our community are heard, valued, and integrated into the planning and decision-making processes.
The primary objective of Goose Talks is to create a structured and transparent channel for gathering input from the community on various matters, ranging from facility projects and volunteer opportunities to new campus initiatives. By doing so, the committee helps to build a sense of ownership and inclusivity. Each meeting will have a different focus and activity.
Transparency is a cornerstone of the committee’s operations. Regular updates will be provided to the community regarding the feedback received, decisions made, and the implementation of community-driven initiatives. This transparency fosters trust and accountability, reinforcing the notion that the committee is a genuine advocate for the community’s best interests. Updates will be posted on the district website on the Goose Talks page.
