For golfers serious enough to practice with purpose using a Full Swing KIT launch monitor, FS Combine offers a “smarter” way to track improvement using powerful new scoring metrics.
In a built-in collaboration with performance platform Clippd, premium Full Swing app subscribers have access to AI-derived “shot-quality” scoring via Full Swing Combine. All indoor and outdoor shots recorded on the Full Swing KIT launch monitor will be scored with a single shot-quality number between 0 and 200, as will the overall quality of a user’s Combine practice session.
Shot quality builds on the advances made by strokes-gained statistics, but factors in additional layers of context based on multiple factors including distance, start lie, end result, course conditions, weather and altitude. Objectively capturing all of this data and distilling it down to a single number will allow Full Swing premium subscribers to more effectively focus on specific areas of improvement.
To help with benchmarking performance, these scores fall into five categories: 0-49 (needs work); 50-79 (average); 80-99 (great); 100-120 (tour level); and 121+ (exceptional).
“Adding ‘shot quality’ to the 16 points of club and ball data already collected by KIT will give users even greater insights into the strengths and weaknesses of their games,” said Jason Fierro, COO for Full Swing. “It’s a powerful and easy-to-understand metric that will not only identify specific distances and shot types that challenge them more than others, but also provide a simple way to compare their performance against players of different abilities.”
Clippd’s shot-quality algorithms have been trained on millions of shots recorded by tour professionals and elite amateurs. For historical scoring context, Bryson DeChambeau’s 55-yard bunker shot on the final hole of the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst earned a shot-quality score of 181. Phil Mickelson’s 207-yard 6-iron off the pine straw on the 13th hole during the final round of his 2010 Masters victory scored a 198. Conversely, Bernhard Langer’s missed 6-foot putt in the final match at the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah earned a shot-quality score of 39.
Full Swing’s premium app ($199 annual subscription) gives users access to more than just the new shot-quality scoring. Other benefits include unlimited video storage and access to historical data such as session archives and analysis, stats visualization and club averages.
“Combining Clippd’s shot-quality insights with Full Swing’s cutting-edge technology means players and coaches now have a clearer, smarter way to understand performance and accelerate improvement,” said Piers Parnell, CEO of Clippd.
The Full Swing KIT launch monitor ($4,999) is designed to be portable, durable, reliable and easy to use, with innovative patented radar technology that can process the most accurate readings faster and more efficiently. It can fit in a golf bag and doesn’t require alignment sticks or calibration stickers, so you can simply set it down, select a club and align to your target in seconds using its video alignment feature with on-unit buttons or with your app.
