Twenty years ago, John O’Donnell started selling polo shirts out of the trunk of his car in Santa Monica, California. To celebrate its roots, Johnnie-O is offering a 20th anniversary collection that includes a reissue of its original four-button polo as well as some limited-edition golf swag.
“We didn’t set out to build an actual company 20 years ago – we just wanted to make a great polo,” said O’Donnell, founder of Johnnie-O. “What’s followed has been the ride of a lifetime. This collection celebrates where we started, the people who’ve been with us, and the little details that make Johnnie-O what it is today.”
The Four-Button Original Polo that started it all is 100 percent cotton and the limited reissue will feature four distinct color options. The Original ($89) became a trunk-show favorite, then a PGA Show staple, and ultimately became the cornerstone of the Johnnie-O brand. The “tweener button” placed between the second and third offers just the right amount of chest coverage.
Another limited performance jersey print polo ($98) features images of some special places, things and moments from the company’s two decades.
As part of its 20th anniversary, Johnnie-O teamed up with SWAG Golf to make exclusive, limited-edition headcovers ($118) inspired by the Original polo and its West Coast roots. Blade and mallet putter headcovers pay homage to the four-button polo while a driver cover is inspired by the JO 20th printed performance shirt that features familiar images of SoCal. The partnership previews a broader SWAG x Johnnie-O collaboration dropping in August that will feature additional styles and inventory.
In addition to the anniversary collection, Johnnie-O is expanding its product offering in 2025 with new category introductions, including a six-style eyewear collection (in May) and five new hat silhouettes in collaboration with Legacy/L2 Brands.
