I have previously written to GGP about LIV Golf and why it should be left to die on the vine. The last 10 minutes of Sunday’s telecast of the Masters should show everyone why legacy trumps money any day (“Rory, Rory Hallelujah!,” April 14, GGP).
Again, I do not think badly of anyone who has left the PGA Tour for large sums of money, sometimes generational money, to give themselves and their families a better life. More power to them!
But, watching the joy and total relief of Rory McIlroy after he realized he had prevailed in attaining a Masters victory and joining the other five players who have won all four major golf championships was overpowering.
Legacy versus monetary benefits. Trophies versus dollars. If you play well and collect the trophies, the money will be there. The type of emotion that was shown by McIlroy at the end of the playoff will never come from winning vast amounts of money.
What a great day for golf!
My condolences to Justin Rose – he is a good man and a great champion. I hope he gets another chance.

It was the best day in golf in a long time (“Rory, Rory Hallelujah!,” April 14, GGP). The favorite won and in doing so righted all the wrong that has hung over the sport these past years. It was magical at the finish!

Excellent (“Divot: Augusta’s time warp,” April 21, GGP)! The person trying to sneak a peek at a watch should have just asked the time. It is sort of rude to stare.
I guess the days are gone when watches are necessary jewelry. I have 5 or 6. I would not mind being allowed in Augusta National wearing a coat saying “find out what time it is here.” Nor would I have minded answering the “what time is it?” question and looking for the occasional “do you have the time?” question to be able to respond, “depends on what you have in mind!”
