Pinehurst Resort has unveiled plans for its 11th 18-hole course. Pinehurst No. 11, to be designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, will begin construction later this year and is expected to open in the fall of 2027. No. 11 will join the Tom Doak-designed Pinehurst No. 10 at the 900-acre Pinehurst Sandmines site that for decades was mined for its deep reservoirs of sand.
Those past mining operations are still evident within the contours of the site of Coore and Crenshaw’s routing. They are among the features that have drawn the pair to this area since their acclaimed restoration of Pinehurst No. 2 about 15 years ago.
“It’s such a wonderful site, just because of its inherent character,” Coore said. “That character was essentially created, not all of it is natural, but it has all been reclaimed by nature. This is land left over from all that mining from the 1930s. The spoil piles are here, and Mother Nature provided the trees, and it’s all incredible. It’s not too often you get that kind of combination, and it creates a site that is extraordinarily interesting for golf.” READ MORE

He later won four times on what’s now the PGA Tour Champions, including the 1995 Ford Senior Players Championship, where he beat Jack Nicklaus in a playoff. READ MORE
With the 125th U.S. Open on the horizon, the USGA has teamed with Oakmont Country Club and the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association to invest $1 million in the Pittsburgh-area community as part of its 2025 championship giveback program.
Allegheny County’s historic North Park and South Park golf courses – each of which has hosted a USGA championship in the past – and Pittsburgh’s Bob O’Connor Golf Course in Schenley Park will receive funding to increase participation and support sustainability goals.
Local parks in the boroughs of Oakmont and Plum will also benefit from the investment, intended to support public green spaces and promote outdoor recreation. And future golf leaders will again take part in the USGA’s Pathways Internship during championship week, providing an immersive, paid experience for 24 college or graduate students. READ MORE
