PRESENTING
WOMEN'S SENIOR AMATEUR
FIRST TEAM
Macarena Campomanes
Spain
Low Individual: European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship
Top 5: European Seniors’ Championship
Runner-Up: Gran Premio Senior Femenino
A consistent presence on our first team over the years, Campomanes still made the top squad despite not having her best year. She was the low individual amongst a deep field in the European Senior Ladies’ Championship and had several other top-5 results in key European events.
Kathy Hartwiger
Birmingham, Alabama
Winner: North and South Senior Women’s Championship
Semifinalist: U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
Winner: Women’s Eastern Senior Amateur
Hartwiger won two national events, including the North and South Senior Women’s Championship. She also reached the semifinals of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur while making match play in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am. A runner-up result in the AGA Senior Women’s Amateur completed her resume.
Judith Kyrinis
Canada
Quarterfinalist: U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
Top 25: U.S. Senior Women’s Open
Round of 32: U.S. Women’s Mid-Am
One of three Canadians on our first team, Kyrinis earned her spot by playing well in national championships. That included a tie for 25th in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, making the quarterfinals of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, reaching the round of 32 in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am, a top 5 in the Canadian Women’s Mid-Am and a tie for 11th in the R&A Senior Women’s Amateur.
Ellen Port
St. Louis, Missouri
Winner: AGA Senior Women’s Amateur
Top 30: U.S. Senior Women’s Open
You can pencil in Port’s name to the first team just about every year. She won a national event at the AGA Senior Women’s Amateur while also having positive showings in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, U.S. Women’s Mid-Am and U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.
Terrill Samuel
Winner: R&A Women’s Senior Amateur
Winner: Florida Women’s Senior Amateur
Round of 16: U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
Samuel won the second-biggest senior women’s event by field strength, which was the R&A Women’s Senior Amateur in Scotland. There was no shortage of other top results on her CV, including a win in the Florida Women’s Senior Am, making the semifinals of the Jones-Doherty, a runner-up in the Canadian Women’s Mid-Am and a visit to the round of 16 in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.
Shelly Stouffer
Winner: U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
Winner: Canadian Women’s Mid-Am
Winner: Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur
We have Stouffer ranked as our player of the year in the senior women’s category. She won both the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur and Canadian Women’s Mid-Am, in addition to a top 30 in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open and a victory in the Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur.
Lara Tennant
Portland, Oregon
Runner-Up: R&A Women’s Senior Amateur
In comparison to her outstanding performances in 2019 and 2021, this year was a bit of a letdown for the ever-young Oregonian. Even with that said, Tennant still finished runner-up in the R&A Women’s Senior Amateur, had a top 30 in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open and made match play in both the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur and U.S. Women’s Mid-Am.
Sylvie Van Molle
Belgium
Winner: Gran Premio Senior Femenino
Winner: Belgian International Senior Championship
Winner: Internationaux de France Seniors Dames
Van Molle is No. 2 in the WAGR for the senior women’s category, and it’s easy to see why. She won four times in 2022, doing so in four countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Spain and France).
Laura Webb
Ireland
Winner: Spanish International Senior Ladies’ Championship
Winner: Irish Senior Women’s Open
Top 5: Irish Women’s Close Championship
We haven’t always had a GB&I representative in this category, but Webb emerged as a first team member for 2022. She won the Spanish International Senior Ladies’ Championship, which is one of the top events in Europe, and had some great finishes in Ireland. We also appreciate that she played in both the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur and R&A Women’s Senior Amateur with respectable results in both.
Sue Wooster
Australia
Winner: European Seniors’ Championship
Runner-Up: U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
Winner: Australian Women’s Senior Amateur
We couldn’t find any senior women’s amateur who played more golf than Wooster did this past year, and we had her rated as the No. 2 player in the category. She had five wins — highlighted by the European Seniors’ Championship — and was runner-up to Stouffer in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, among a bevy of other top finishes.
