hen Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland, hosted the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center-Pediatric Food Allergy Research Golf Tournament in May, the staff decided to go outside the usual apparel or footwear gift options in favor of something a little more glamorous.
“We had heard about Revo doing events when we attended the 2024 PGA Merchandiser of the Year Conference in January,” says PGA of America Director of Golf Matt Summers. “They have a great tournament program featuring awesome sunglasses and plenty of inventory that was sent to us, and the rep was on-site to provide each pair.”
When planning the event, Summers received a Revo catalog with options to choose from for his field of 128 golfers. He selected a few of his favorites, and Revo also sent samples of some of their recommended best sellers. In the end, Summers zeroed in on eight or so options, and Revo delivered between 160 and 180 pairs of sunglasses for the event.
“The rep for our area arrived and set up in the gift suite room and gave the sunglasses out to golfers as they walked through the gift line,” he says. “If anyone needed a pair that was sold out, they were special ordered and shipped directly to the golfer's address. At the end of the event, the rep took inventory, boxed up the remaining glasses and had shipping labels sent to us to stick on the box and return. It was easy and great.”
Also positive was the reaction of participants, Summers says, adding, “They loved the sunglasses, and the event chair loved them, as well. It was a great gift and something different than the norm for their giveaways – a quality gift that was also functional.”
According to Revo’s VP of Golf Kim Miller, the company’s tournament gifting program has been growing steadily, with Revo now doing about 100 tournaments annually. For each event, a Revo rep sets up a fitting station and presents a curated selection of styles for members and/or guests to choose from. After being fitted, each participant receives the sunglasses along with a club- or event-logoed cleaning cloth.
“It’s a very custom experience, and the PGA of America Professionals don’t have to do anything. We do it all,” Miller says. “There’s no sizing, no inventory messes, no pre-ordering and our pricing beats the competitors by at least $30.”
American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan, chose Revo to provide gifts for 120 participants in a GuidePoint Security tournament in May 2023. According to PGA of America Head Professional Ian Ziska, the 2022 Merchandiser of the Year for public facilities, the lead from the group wanted a premium gift for the event that would blend lifestyle and golf.
“We communicated with the team at Revo, selected a few styles of eyewear and they sent in the product,” Ziska says. “In addition, Revo sent in representation knowledgeable with the brand to assist our guests with their selection.”
According to Ziska, the process was smooth, the presentation perfect and the gift was a big hit with participants.
“Our team was able to deliver a quality item with added value based on GuidePoint’s request, and our shop was able to increase the retail sales for the day and event without having to increase our inventory,” he says. “This was a smashing success and a company we will work with again for another group in the future.”
