As a two-time winner of both the PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year and PGA of America Teacher & Coach of the Year awards in the Michigan PGA Section, Dave Kendall has taught thousands of lessons in his storied career. A recent story in The Detroit News focused on what he has learned while battling Stage 4 esophageal cancer at age 69. The emotional story recounts how Kendall (pictured), now semi-retired and a co-owner of Michigan’s Washtenaw Country Club, returned to playing the game after grueling surgeries and chemo treatments. In fact, he recently made his 11th hole-in-one. “I’ve been rolling sevens my entire life. What do I got to complain about?” Kendall says in the story. “How can I complain, being (almost) 70, all the nice things that have happened in my life? I’m grateful, I’m not sad at all. I’ve never spent one day being sad.” We wish Dave and his family the best, and hope he enjoys many more inspirational rounds of golf..

The PGA of America Coaching Center powered by T-Mobile is already making an impact with young players from the surrounding Frisco, Texas, community. NBCDFW recently ran a story about young women from Frisco’s high schools receiving coaching from the center’s staff in the state-of-the-art facility adjacent to the Home of the PGA of America. The story quotes a 15-year-old from nearby Panther Creek High School, who considers PGA of America Golf Coach Paige Holland a mentor, as saying “I feel like I have a better mental outlook on life because of golf. It just makes me feel so alive and so strong.”

Speaking of Frisco, the two-year-old campus at the Home of the PGA of America and Omni PGA Frisco Resort was given a major shout-out in Sports Business Journal. The story detailed nominees for the publication’s annual Sports Business Awards and noted that the facilities in Frisco are so comprehensive that it’s difficult to slot the campus into a single awards category. SBJ points out that there are few facilities that can host major professional and amateur sporting events, provide practice and competition areas to recreational athletes, serve as a teaching and training location for professionals, house the headquarters of the world’s largest working sports association, provide broadcast facilities for the media and also host corporate and private gatherings – all in addition to the many amenities at Omni PGA Frisco Resort.

One of the biggest names in sports is set to tee it up at a high-profile event this month. WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark is scheduled to play in The Annika, the LPGA Tour event hosted by Annika Sorenstam at Pelican Golf Club in Florida. According to ESPN, Clark will also participate in a women’s leadership summit prior to the event. The Indiana Fever star is an avid golfer who said she planned to play golf in the Midwest until it got too cold this fall, so a chance to tee it up in Florida alongside Sorenstam is a great way for Clark to extend the season and bring even more attention to the game of golf.
