Sacramento’s Taylor Baker will begin her collegiate career at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo hoping that momentum stays on her side.
In late July, Baker, 18, captured the title at the 55th Sacramento County Women’s Golf Championship at Mather Golf Course thanks in part to a bogey free, final round 10-under 62. The 62, which featured 10 birdies (five on each nine), set a women’s course record at Mather.
“It was pretty awesome,” said Baker, who finished the event with a score of 13-under 131. “I feel like I’ve always liked the course. It fits my eye. I feel like if you get in the fairway and hit some good wedges, it’s a fair course.”
Baker had some good vibes entering the Sacramento County Women’s event. She already had shot 65 at Mather during her sophomore season at Rio Americano High.
She also had her mom, Kim, on the bag as her caddie.
“It was special to share the moment with her,” said Baker, whose prep career at Rio Americano included a CIF NorCal Individual title in 2024. “She’s been such a huge supporter.”
