March/April
Midwest Golf House, the current-day home of the CDGA and other golf entities, only existed in sketch form at the time of 2000’s debut edition. The Jemsek Family and their generous contribution of the land Midwest Golf House sits on were also spotlighted.
May/June
The preeminent event to visit the Chicago District in 2000 was the U.S. Women’s Open at Merit Club, as outlined in this issue’s cover story. Additionally, the SBC Senior Open at Kemper Lakes Golf Club was previewed.
July/August
Today, Mike Keiser’s Bandon Dunes is a seven-golf-course behemoth known by everyone as one of the world’s top golf destinations. In 2000, it was simply one 18-hole course looking to make its mark, as evidenced by this edition’s cover story.
September/October
The year 2000 was the peak of Tiger Woods’ historic career, as he claimed three majors. That July, shown on this issue’s cover, the CDGA presented him with the Radix Trophy for the lowest official scoring average on tour.
November/December
Today Team Europe’s captain, a youthful Luke Donald was hailed as the LaSalle Bank Chicago Open champion 25 years ago. Elsewhere, the Tiger Woods-driven golf boom was on full display, with 17 new courses joining the CDGA.
