Mobile home pilot offers cost-saving help
SOUTH BURLINGTON—A new Mobile Home Pilot Program offered by Vermont Gas is making it easier for homeowners in mobile home communities to save money and reduce their energy needs.
The program is designed to identify and repair leaky air ducts and upgrade insulation in the roof and floor of mobile homes. Older homes can be particularly inefficient and drafty, but with Vermont Gas’ help, homeowners can see up to a 20 percent savings on their energy bills, the utility said.
“Our energy experts have already completed several projects on homes in Williston, Vermont, and the interest continues to build,” Brian Gray, Energy Services manager at Vermont Gas, told American Gas. “We are looking forward to bringing this pilot program to other communities in the coming months.”
Williston resident Jodie Peck said she knew her mobile home wasn’t very efficient for the environment or her checkbook, but she didn’t know where to get help. “I was surprised how helpful the free energy audit was and how easy it was to work with Vermont Gas to upgrade my home,” she said.
The Vermont Gas Mobile Home Pilot Program offers several financial incentives to help mobile home owners pay for the cost of upgrades, including rebates of up to 75 percent for duct sealing and roof and belly insulation. Those who qualify as low-income customers receive these measures at no cost. Vermont Gas also provides rebates on energy-efficient appliances and more.
