Our regular series sees some new MSD Ireland colleagues share their first impressions. In this issue, colleagues from the six MSD Ireland sites offer an insight into what they found ‘most surprising’ upon joining their new roles.

“The most surprising thing for me since joining MSD Biotech is the overarching sense of pride I feel being part of the larger Biotech site team. Yes, because of the small part myself and my team play in Keytruda but equally the pride of being part of an employee centric workplace; where people really are at the core of what we do. Everyone is valued and respected both on a personal and professional level. All voices are heard, from interns to senior management. This culture is showcased across many platforms, from ‘Breakfast with Liam’ allowing people from all areas of the site to chat with Liam Dunne in an informal environment, sharing both personal and business insights, to the Inspire program; the ability to give recognition to peers, managers, and other MSD sites is both impactful and empowering!”

It is wonderful to see how fast the site has grown and expanded in a short time frame. This in turn has obviously led to an increase in the numbers working on-site. When I was last here it was still quite small and intimate – a place where everyone knew everyone – but now the team has expanded hugely! I am delighted to say that despite the growth there is still the same focus on quality and safety. Sometimes these things can become diluted as sites expand, but at MSD Carlow this focus has remained steadfast.”
