Prevue: Detail an over-the-top incentive program that hit all the marks.
Silva: Recently hosted an industry event exclusively for incentive travel planners. Upon arrival guests were welcomed in the gifting room—a speakeasy with outdoor patio—with handcrafted beverages, amuse bouche, and house-made desserts. The evening kicked off with a reception full of handcrafted, and hand-carved “tastes of Florida” from local farms, ranches, and of course the Gulf of Mexico. A local live band provided the entertainment.
Throughout the program we incorporated elements of our rich history, and local culture in the event space, and in the culinary experiences. The half day offsite activities gave attendees a true sense of what it is like “to be a local for the day” providing fun, unique, and educational experiences. For those that stayed onsite they were challenged at our golf course, and pampered in our spa. Guests received custom amenities unique to that program.
How do you create the just-perfect incentive program combining the outdoors and an active program?
We utilize the surrounding natural elements that provide outdoor active offsite activities: On the marina—a boating excursion. In the parks—a botanical education, or park Olympics. In downtown—a walking tour/treasure hunt. At our golf course—play, or get fit for custom clubs. At our tennis club- free play or lessons are offered. At our Spa—outdoor yoga or sound bath experience. Or attendees can just lounge at one of our two pools. For in/outdoor several museums, coffee roasters, breweries and music venues keep attendees active, and entertained.
How important are industry partners in creating an incentive experience that wows attendees?
Our partners are vital to the success of creating the perfect incentive experience. AV/technology is paramount in stimulating the senses, and DMC partners are critical from timely transportation, entertainment, offsite venue selection and decor.
Provide three tips for planners to create an incentive program that hits it out of the ballpark.
Lean in to the locality of the hotel/resort and incorporate the city DNA throughout the event not just receptions. Bring in speakers associated with community service programs. Use local vendors for gifting in addition to the large corporate brands.
How important is incorporating a mental wellbeing element into today's incentive program?
Critical. The incentive program is a celebration of your people, giving them time to experience things on their own, or just rest and be well is the best gift you can give them.
