It has become increasingly difficult to find peace and quiet in the booming Greater Austin area. Those looking for sanctuary amid the seemingly endless construction and daily traffic jams can find it and more at Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club.
Created from beautiful Texas ranch land on the northern edge of Georgetown, Cimarron Hills opened January 2003. This luxury private gated country club is home to a spectacular 45,000 square-foot clubhouse, spa, fitness center, tennis facilities, restaurant and an award-winning 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.
One of golf’s foremost modern architects, Nicklaus took advantage of the site’s abundant natural features – towering oak trees, gently rolling terrain and the meandering San Gabriel River – to create a spectacular course. The par-72 track presents a memorable challenge and experience for players of all skill levels.
Last year Cimarron Hills underwent an $800,000 golf course renovation that included a complete redo of all fairway and greenside bunkers, as well as switching out the grass on the putting surfaces from bentgrass to Champion bermudagrass. The greens conversion provides top-quality conditions on an everyday basis and allows fine-tuning for elite championship conditions when needed.
Cimarron Hills has hosted many high-profile tournaments over the years. The new greens promise to be firm and fast when the club welcomes this year’s Collegiate Preview, one of the most competitive events on the Legends Junior Tour annual schedule.
Set for March 12-13, the LJT’s Collegiate Preview is a 54-hole event for boys and girls aged 14-18. It’s ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, Golfweek and the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The championship format for the elite 78-player field is intentionally set up like a collegiate tournament. Competitors play 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the second.
