Nearly every competitive golfer, at one point or another, makes a list of goals. Whether it’s to break par for the first time in a tournament, make the cut in a 54- or 72-hole event, rack up enough performance points to make a run at a Texas Player of the Year award or something else entirely, setting goals is second nature for the majority of competitive golfers.
How powerful is writing down your goals? A 2016 study conducted at Dominican University in Northern California showed people who write down their goals on a regular basis are 42 percent more likely to achieve them. That’s quite a testimonial for the practice of setting – and writing down – your goals.
As we enter the 2018 competitive season, it’s our sincere hope one of the goals you’ll write down is to participate in at least one of the nine Major Championships across divisions of play offered by the TGA. Regardless of your age or gender, if you’re a competitive player, we have a major championship worthy of your list of goals.
Reserved for the best of the best, the Texas Four-Ball, Bryon Nelson Junior, 109th Texas Amateur, Women’s Stroke Play, Texas Junior Amateur, 97th WTGA State Amateur, Texas Mid-Amateur, Texas Senior Amateur and Women’s Senior Stroke Play represent the pinnacle of statewide competition.
The venues for this season’s Major Championships offer opportunities to compete at the highest levels on some of the best golf courses in Texas. From the glistening new Maridoe Golf Club to some of the state’s oldest and most prestigious clubs in River Oaks and San Antonio Country Clubs to Whispering Pines Golf Club, the consensus No. 1-ranked course in Texas, our goal was to provide thrilling and scenic canvases for the 2018 Major Championship rotation.
By the year’s end, we think you’ll agree we achieved our goal. The question remains: Will you achieve yours?
The following pages highlight each of our nine Major Championships. We hope to see you there.
