In many areas of the country, the middle of February is certainly nothing to look forward to golf-wise. For those in the northern parts of the U.S., they’re still stuck in a monthslong hiatus away from the course and are getting their golf fix either through a bone-chilling session on the driving range or indoors with a simulator.
But it’s an entirely different story here in Texas, because the early going of the new year means another exciting season of TGA and Legends Junior Tour competitions is at hand. And what a season it promises to be.
In 2025, the TGA and LJT will take players on a real journey across the state – from Wichita Falls to Corpus Christi and all points in between – staging a combined 46 events featuring a variety of formats and experiences for men, women, seniors and juniors. Add in the nine TGA Medalist Series events and 39 USGA qualifiers in Texas the TGA and LJT will conduct and that brings the total up to 94 competitive playing opportunities throughout the year. With such a jam-packed schedule, it’s no wonder there’s a prompt start to the action.
Thanks to an accommodating member club roster that is actively involved in supporting amateur golf, the TGA and LJT annually visit some of the finest courses in Texas, and this year is no different. Among the outstanding host venues in 2025 include BraeBurn Country Club, Champions Golf Club, Corpus Christi Country Club, Galveston Country Club, Horseshoe Bay Resort, Lakewood Country Club, Ridgewood Country Club, Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, Tempest Golf Club, UT Golf Club, Wichita Falls Country Club, and Westwood Golf Club.
The TGA men’s and women’s 2025 season-opening events are fast approaching. The men’s schedule begins Feb. 22-23 with the North and South Four-Balls, while the women’s season kicks off March 25-26 with the Women’s Eclectic. The LJT 2025 season already started with the Winter Classic on Jan. 18-19.
Across the range of spirited competitions each year, there are a select few that stand above the rest. The 10 major championships on the TGA and LJT annual schedules are the ones that are imbued with history, prestige and magnitude. There has always been a lot at stake in these majors, of course, but even more so now that four of the championships have been designated as USGA Exemption Events beginning in 2024. The elevated status means the winners of the Texas Amateur, Women’s Texas Amateur, and Texas Junior Amateur Boys 15-18 Division and Girls 15-18 Division earn full exemptions into the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women’s Amateur, U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur, respectively.
