The TGA Foundation is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the 2023 Doris Kallina/’Nez Muhleman Scholarship for deserving young women who have a connection to the game of golf and are seeking higher education. Interested applicants can review the full submission guidelines, including eligibility requirements and application procedures, by clicking here. The deadline to apply is March 5.
Valued at $25,000 over a four-year period, the goal of the Doris Kallina/’Nez Muhleman Scholarship is to provide resources to help offset the cost associated with attending college so students can focus on their education. The 2023 scholarship will be awarded based on a review of the following primary criteria: demonstrated financial need, academic proficiency, desire for higher education, extracurricular activities, and participation in an organized junior golf program.
“We are gratified to be able to offer the Doris Kallina/’Nez Muhleman Scholarship and help young women achieve their dream of earning a college degree and climbing the ladder of success,†said Kelly Kilgo, Managing Director of TGA Foundation/Outreach. “The scholarship can have a tremendous positive impact on a young woman’s journey in life, and we encourage everyone who qualifies to apply for this exceptional opportunity.â€
The entire application – including supporting documents such as high school transcript, SAT or ACT official document with score, recommendation letters, and cover letter highlighting financial need as well as general background and golf participation – must be submitted electronically to Kelly Kilgo at kkilgo@txga.org no later than 5 p.m. on March 5. The TGA Foundation Committee will review all submitted applications, conduct interviews with finalists, and then recommend a recipient for approval by the TGA Foundation Board of Directors. The 2023 scholarship award winner will be announced on April 5.
Established in 2015, the scholarship is awarded every four years and is named for Doris Kallina and ’Nez Muhleman, two women who have given their time, energy, and resources to promote women’s golf in Texas for many years. Both served as past presidents of the former Women’s TGA and have long and distinguished legacies with the USGA as volunteers, committee members, and officials. Their contributions to the game of golf have benefitted countless women and girls and their dedication, character and lifelong connection to golf are attributes that the TGA Foundation Scholarship Program endeavors to honor and encourage in the next generation of young women.
