The TGA is proud to conduct the best and most diverse array of championships for men, women, seniors and juniors. With a nearly yearlong schedule that includes a wide variety of tournament formats for all ages and handicap ranges, almost everyone has a favorite event to play.
There are a select few events on the annual schedule, however, that really get the adrenaline flowing. For those who look to challenge themselves on the state’s biggest amateur stages, the TGA major championships are the focal point of any golf season.
Thanks to the welcoming spirit of our dedicated Member Clubs, the TGA once again has the opportunity to host its premier championships on the finest courses in Texas. Included in this mix are Dallas Athletic Club, Bent Tree Country Club, Lakewood Country Club, Briggs Ranch Golf Club, The Clubs of Kingwood and Maridoe Golf Club.
The Blue Course at Dallas Athletic Club will play host to the 110th Texas Amateur from June 13-16. It will be the seventh different TGA championship held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout and third Texas Amateur.
In like manner, Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas will host its seventh TGA major championship and third Women’s Texas Amateur. The state’s best female golfers will meet up at Bent Tree for the 98th playing of the championship from July 16-19.
The 20th LJT Byron Nelson Junior Championship will be played June 4-6 at Lakewood Country Club. The historic club in East Dallas has been home to the Byron Nelson Junior since the tournament’s inception, with the exception of 2012 and 2014 when the course was closed for renovations.
Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio is hosting its first Women’s Stroke Play Championship from June 21-23. The Tom Fazio-designed course is no stranger to top-tier women’s competitions, though. In 2012, the club welcomed the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
The 93rd Texas Junior Amateur returns to the North Houston area following a stint in the Hill Country. The Island and Forest Courses at The Clubs of Kingwood will host 300 of the state’s best junior golfers competing in four age divisions from July 22-24.
Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton will be the site of the 36th Texas Mid-Amateur from Sept. 13-15. Designed by Steve Smyers, Maridoe opened for play in 2017. After two short years, the brawny course has already proven to be a challenging test of a player’s physical and mental skills and will certainly provide a dramatic backdrop for one of the final majors of the season.
While there are still several months before the first TGA major championship of 2019, it's not too soon to dream about this year’s lineup.
