The Legends Junior Tour has released the first half of its 2019 Competitions Calendar. This year’s schedule features several important date changes, as well as the addition of a new fall tournament.
The first half of the schedule includes two events that have not changed time slots or venues. The Bluebonnet Championship will be held May 4-5 at Brownwood Country Club and the Byron Nelson Junior Championship will take place June 4-6 at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas.
The biggest change to the LJT schedule is the move of two prestigious invitational tournaments, the Texas Cup Invitational and the Texas Girls’ Invitational, to the early part of 2019. The format for both championships has also been changed from 36-holes to 54-holes, played over three days. The Texas Girls’ Invitational will be held Feb. 16-18 at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland. The Texas Cup Invitational, a boys-only event, will take place March 11-13 on the Dye Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney.
“We felt moving these two invitational events to the beginning of the year, as well as lengthening them to 54 holes will greatly lift the prestige of each event,†said Kellen Kubasak, Senior Tournament Director. “These are two of our most popular championships and we believe these changes will only increase the caliber of players that we are trying to reach on a national level.â€
Two events that were traditionally contested early in the season have been moved to the second half of the year. The Collegiate Preview will now be held Aug. 5-6 at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth and the James A. Ragan Memorial will be held Oct. 13-14 at Corpus Christi Country Club.
Currently, three golf courses will hold an LJT championship for the first time: Golfcrest Country Club, Stonebridge Ranch Country Club and Quail Valley Golf Course in Missouri City.
Events are open to all junior golfers that have a membership with the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The alliance is a joint venture between the Texas Golf Association, the Northern and Southern Texas PGA sections and the Houston Golf Association.
The second half of the 2019 Competitions Calendar will be released in early spring and will be posted on the LJT website. To see the first half of the 2019 schedule, click here.
