The 2021 TGA Fun Golf Series presented by PGA TOUR Superstore capped off its season in style at the annual Texas Shamble tournament in Boerne. Players from every corner of the state gathered from Oct. 29-31 for an exciting weekend of golf and social activities at the award-winning Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort.
The 60-team starting field featured a mix of competitive and non-competitive players alike, which created a fun dynamic and allowed for a camaraderie you don’t typically see in high-pressure events.
In just its seventh year, the Texas Shamble has become one of the most popular events in the state with entries quickly filling up each year. The unique tournament format, which appeals to all skill levels, has captured players hearts as many teams are now multi-year participants.
“This is really unlike any event I typically play in,” said Kelly Thorstad, winner of the Mixed Flight 1 Net Division. “I play a lot of competitive golf, so this event is always fun to come and play in for me. I love the relaxed atmosphere of the event and playing at a great course like Tapatio. The course is in really good condition.”
While it could be seen often during play, the most evident display of camaraderie among players could be seen off the course. Due to the morning shotgun starts, players finished their rounds in the early afternoon and had the remainder of the day to spend time together at the resort. Friends new and old grabbed bites to eat or sat on the patio while enjoying a cold beverage and the perfect weather.
Thorstad’s playing partner, Trevor Turner, echoed her sentiment.
“We just love playing in this event and playing golf together in a relaxed environment,” he said.
A sense of enjoyment and relaxation could be felt throughout the three-day event. The combination of the Texas fall weather, a beautiful resort-style course, great tasting food, and plenty of time for other activities around the Hill Country contributed to a wonderful time for everyone who participated in the Texas Shamble.
