Not sure may would argue with me that 2025 was a challenging year. It reminds me of the quote, "Tough times don’t last but tough people do." Few exemplify this mantra better than HR leaders who consistently bring a high level of positive resilience to their workplaces. This positive resilience shows up in how HR leaders lead through constant change while ensuring goal-meeting performance and employee well-being.
That same ability to adapt and look ahead becomes especially relevant as the year draws to a close and organizations begin to reflect on what’s next. It's hard to believe it’s already December and time for our annual predictions cover story. This year Associate and Online Editor Maggie Mancini highlights four trends coming from seven HR experts. After reviewing their thoughtful advice and considering what I am seeing in the marketplace, I have a few thoughts. Like many others, I am highly anticipating when the hiring market will open up. It’s a million-dollar question and I wish I had a solid answer. One CHRO who I spoke with is optimistic in his prediction of two months. I am hoping he is right, but I am thinking it will likely be six months (and maybe I’m being optimistic!?). With this, job hugging should come to an end, and talent will certainly shuffle around—I’ve read research that anticipates around 20% of workers will be on the move. Organizations and employees alike should take into consideration AI’s impact and ask yourself this: Are you an AI resister or an AI adopter? AI will likely replace some traditional skillsets—making the need for upskilling even greater than ever before. No matter what comes to fruition, like in the past, it will be an interesting time for HR!
One prediction that hopefully rings true for all: 2026 will be a better year. Until then – stay tough!
Happy Holidays and New Year!
