GARDEN CENTRE FEATURE
The most obvious ornaments we choose for our gardens are plants which become the strongest focal points in our borders. They demand our love and attention at various times of the year: as they come into flower in the spring, or display handsome foliage in autumn as their swan song, or as evergreen statements all year round.
The bare branches of the Amelanchier are stylish year round and give a home to this ‘Shy Maiden’ on a plinth that actually featured in our perennial garden at the Glasgow Garden Festival back in 1998.
Just as you would add ornaments to decorate and personalise the inside of your home, adding ornaments to your garden makes it distinctive and personalised.
As William Morris famously said, ‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful'… ideally both, and this applies to your garden as well.
Choosing ornaments for your garden is very personal, and beauty does lie in the eyes of the beholder. Have confidence in what you hold to be beautiful.
Positioning garden ornaments where you will see them is obviously important, but placing them to maximum effect is really impactful.
A bird bath for example, can become a focal point in the garden if you can see it from inside. It becomes something beautiful to look out upon, as well as being a life saver for your feathered visitors - there is nothing as mesmerising as watching a blackbird having a good wash or a drink.
Garden ornaments can cheer up a dull area, like hanging some wall art on a blank wall for example, to add instant impact.
These statues of ‘Diana, the Goddess of Unmarried Mothers and Hunters’, and ‘Acteon, the Hunter’, are actors in our woodland. Acteon comes upon Diana bathing with her maids when he is out hunting with his hounds. She is so incensed that she has been spied on by a man that she turns him into a stag, and he is killed by his own hounds. Health Warning – gardens can be dangerous places and not just with ladders and sharp tools!
We always stock a vast range of attractive options to suit every garden and budget in metal, wood, carved or reconstituted stone, glass, recycled plastic, and resin.
We believe we offer more garden ornaments than anyone else in Scotland and have them displayed around our gardens here in West Lothian so you can see them in an outdoor garden setting to inspire your garden ornament choices.
