News and Notes from the MGA Foundation
Kelechi Ezihie was first introduced to the world of golf through his GOLFWORKS internship at the former Woodmere Club on Long Island’s South Shore. Those high school summers working at the club were just the start of his journey and now career through the game.
Ezihie, 27, was born in Nigera before moving to Long Island. After meeting with a GOLFWORKS recruiter, he began working at Woodmere in 2014. “In high school, when I saw the game of golf, I thought, I will never play this sport,” he laughs. He worked as a part of the golf operations team and in the bag room for three summers, before attending York College (CUNY) and later earned a master’s degree from LSU Shreveport.
He took his first golf swings at Woodmere, playing a few times on Mondays with other employees. Despite working at the course, he wasn’t fully interested in the game until he was living in Indiana in his early 20s. Ezihie caught the golf bug and spent hours practicing at the range. “When you start getting better, your confidence level starts to increase,” he says.
Ezihie moved back to New York, and after struggling to find people to play golf with, was inspired to start his company, Golf Insights. With the mission of “making golf more accessible, inclusive, and engaging for all by breaking barriers in the sport through education, experiences, and innovation,” Ezihie is focused on sharing his love for the game with others. Through social events, networking opportunities, and beginner-friendly tournaments, Ezihie is building a community through a sport he at one time never thought he’d be a part of.
In February, Ezihie had a full-circle moment with the MGA when an organization he works with, Life’sWorc, participated in an adaptive golf clinic through the MGA’s Adaptive Golf Program. Life’sWorc provides services and support to people with intellectual and development disabilities and autism in Queens, Manhattan, and Long Island. A group of 40 participants enjoyed an introductory clinic with the MGA, with Ezihie lending a helping hand to show participants the basics of the game.
Through his work with Golf Insights and Life’sWorc, Ezihie has come a long way from his teenage days in the bag room at Woodmere. He even made headlines in June of 2025 when he set a Guinness World Record by playing golf nonstop for 24 hours at Huntington Crescent Club.
With more to come on the business side for Ezihie, he looks forward to continuing to make an impact through golf within the local community. “I love making an impact,” he says. “What we’re doing with the game of golf is exposing a different demographic of people to the game.”
