Richie Eigen was the first to reply to our request for an update, saying he has been retired for 20 years. For 15 years, he split his time between Florida and Connecticut, but last year moved back to Connecticut full time. His four grandchildren live there, and his oldest granddaughter is a high school freshman who is making her debut on the school basketball team. Richie reminds us that he played all four years at WMC. His granddaughter naturally asked him if he was going to watch her play basketball. That made up his mind, and he decided to spend the rest of his life watching his grandchildren grow up.
Although Roger Adler was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the good news is that he was diagnosed early and underwent surgery at the Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Hospital. Now, two years later, he is in remission and has returned to practicing law in Lower Manhattan.
Anne Marlow Vose ’66 is still serving on the McDaniel Board of Trustees and enjoying seeing the upgrades being made to McDaniel Hall.
Anne Marlow Vose had long shuttled back and forth between Sarasota, Florida, and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, but last fall, she and her husband sold their place in Sarasota and moved to a condo in the city. She says they love the change, and the dogs seem to like it, too. She and her husband are both healthy and very grateful. Anne is still serving on the McDaniel College Board of Trustees, which she enjoys. She says that the college is making some upgrades to the small lobby at McDaniel Hall. They are adding lots of lighting, new art, and a new rug. She urges any of us in the area to stop by and take a look.
Martha “Marty/Merf” Goode McLaren has moved from the beautiful but now overdeveloped and congested town of Lewes, Delaware, to a 55-plus community north of Dover. She loves exploring new places, riding an adult trike around the neighborhood, and sharing her life with a wonderful man that she first met over 40 years ago. After a seven-month struggle with severe pain from a ruptured disc, she was finally able to have spinal surgery, which restored her mobility and quality of life. Now she fills her days with good books, quiet time in nature, involvement in a terrific Unitarian Universalist church, family, and friends. She says her heart fills with gratitude as her grandchildren grow and evolve into amazing adults.
Allan Ingalls shared his first note in 57 years! He writes that after 50 years of adventures, misadventures, and meanderings around the world courtesy of the U.S. Army and State Department, he and his wife, Linda, are now safely and happily retired. His home is now in Spokane, Washington, where he is consumed with the trials and tribulations and joys of home ownership: painting, planting, maintaining, and enjoying the good life, which includes opening boxes of treasures collected from too many tours abroad. Blessings include two daughters, three sons, and eight grandchildren, plus two dogs, a car, good neighbors, the stream in the back, and reasonably good health.
Lyn Smith Misiaszek writes that she and her husband, Pete, bade farewell to a lovely 10 years in St. Michaels, Maryland, and in January moved to a large and very active retirement community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She says the city is charming and bustling, and the surroundings are beautiful. Her new hobby is following the unofficial ice cream trail throughout the county. Carol England recently joined them for lunch.
Karen Myers Schutz, my roommate at WMC, travels between LaGrande, Oregon, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her granddaughter and family live in Oregon, where Karen and her husband have a second home. Their other son lives in Mesa, Arizona.
I, Kaye Stevens Thomas, saw Robert Creighton and Grayson Winterling, M.Ed. ’73 for our high school class reunion in September. My husband, Jim, and I keep very busy in Salisbury, Maryland, and are thankfully in good health. We are able to see our daughter’s family in Bluffton, South Carolina, where our three grandchildren live and where we have a second home. Our son and his wife recently moved to Dallas and our daughter in New York City recently purchased a home in Lewes, Delaware, so we have plenty of places to visit. I think all of us have lost friends, so we were grateful to celebrate our 57th anniversary in August.
Love to everyone.
