By Joachim Burghartz, Editor-in-Chief
Dear readers of the IEEE Electron Devices Magazine (ED-M), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the second issue after a successful launch in June. I am happy about the many positive comments we have received so far. It is also nice to see that our magazine has come to life, indicated by the first “Letters to the Editor” and “Errata” columns we now publish in this new second issue. We also received suggestions for new feature topics and the first contributed articles. We look forward to further contributed article submissions, as well as to submissions of open columns by which members can share their opinion about a topic of their choice, which is of interest to the magazine’s readership.
However, we would like to clarify that we may not be able to guarantee publication of any article that passes the peer review due to page limitations of the magazine, which is different from the publication standards of IEEE Transactions, Journals, and Letters. We also would like to state that we want to ensure that ED-M is not in conflict with the Electron Devices Society (EDS)’s flagship periodicals, where any new material should be published. ED-M wants to aim at comprehensive review and tutorial articles instead.
With that in mind, I am happy that Joshua Yang volunteered to become the first guest editor of ED-M. He put together a bundle of invited and contributed articles on the feature topic: neuromorphic electron devices. I would like to express my special thanks to him and hope that you, the readers of ED-M and EDS members, will enjoy reading this second issue of Volume 1.
