Four Global Golf Post staff members were honored with awards during the annual Golf Writers Association of America contest.
John Steinbreder won a second-place award in the enterprise category for “Arizona seeks to lead in golf’s water wars,” the main piece in a four-story package headlined “Thirst for sustainability” in the February 6, 2023 issue of GGP. Steinbreder also received honorable mention in the enterprise category for his work with colleagues Ron Green Jr. and Jim Nugent on “USGA, R&A push back on distance” in the December 4 issue of GGP. Contributor Patrick Hand received third-place recognition in long profiles for “The legend of John Konsek,” which was published in the August 31 edition of GGP+. READ MORE

The number of golf rounds played in the U.S. in January fell 16.6 percent from the same month a year earlier, according to Golf Datatech, which cited data from the National Golf Foundation. The monthly drop follows a 2023 golf season in which rounds played increased 4.2 percent from the previous year. READ MORE
Jim Furyk was named the winner of the Golf Writers Association of America’s Charlie Bartlett Award, which recognizes “unselfish contributions for the betterment of society.” The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation benefits children and families in need in northeast Florida. Furyk, 53, owns 17 PGA Tour victories, including the 2003 U.S. Open. He will be honored on April 10 during the GWAA’s annual awards dinner before the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. The award is named for the former Chicago Tribune writer and the first secretary of the GWAA. READ MORE
A collection of more than 200 artifacts related to the career of the late Charlie Sifford, a civil-rights pioneer in the game and a World Golf Hall of Fame member, has been received by the USGA Museum in Liberty Corner, New Jersey. Some of the items will be displayed at Sifford’s locker in the World Golf Hall of Fame, which is relocating to Pinehurst, North Carolina, and will open this spring. READ MORE
