The latest footwear offerings from Puma give golfers a couple of very distinct choices.
First came the Ignite Fasten8, a spikeless shoe that is available in both a traditional lace-up version and one that employs the company’s proprietary Disc technology. Its most notable feature is a fit system that consists of eight interior webbing support straps that are integrated into the lacing scheme – and designed to deliver “an exceptionally secure, personalized fit for players with all foot shapes and sizes.”
A TPU saddle integrated with midfoot-support webbing straps and a thin TPU frame placed in high-stress areas bolster overall stability during the swing. Use of the company’s Ignite foam in the midsole also is intended to help with comfort, as is a strategically designed, organically altered traction pattern in the sole.
Created in collaboration with Rickie Fowler, the ProAdapt Mid comes with a full-grain leather upper and a higher-cut collar that is designed to add ankle support and perhaps a bit of panache for players from a style standpoint.
These shoes are built on top of the ProAdapt cleated outsole, with so-called Flex-Grooves located in key areas and designed to improve natural movement. These also employ Adapt Foam cushioning in the heel, again for comfort but also for “energy return” during the golf swing.
In addition, a topline chassis wraps around the heel for added stability and “torsional rigidity,” the company says, while Dual Durometer Tornado cleats (with four PwrAdapt Pods in the heel) are made to improve traction and support. And a new ProAdapt last and Pro-Fit insole further enhance fit.
