Nine LPGA tournaments announced increased purses and the total of official prize money was bumped to nearly $86 million as the world’s premier women’s golf circuit announced its schedule for 2022.
The new slate of 34 events released before Thanksgiving includes a title sponsor switch for the first of the season’s five major championships; the ANA Inspiration now changes to the Chevron Championship. This season it will be played for the final time at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, before a move to Texas in 2023.
The three rotating major championships will be played at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, Congressional Country Club and Muirfield.
The schedule opens with a three-week run in Florida that begins Jan. 20-23 with the limited-field Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. And it again will run through to the CME Group Tour Championship played Nov. 17-20, which will have a record purse of $7 million.
Also featured will be a four-event swing in Europe, a return to Canada for that country’s national open after two years of pandemic-related cancelations, and new tournaments in the Los Angeles area and Cincinnati, Ohio.
“The stage is set for 2022 to be one of the most exciting years in the history of the LPGA Tour,” said new commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “We will continue to focus on offering a dynamic schedule that allows players to reach their peak performance in golf and in life and that provides the platform to inspire young girls and women around the globe to dream big.”
