Around the time of the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show, FootJoy rolled out its FJ Flex shoe for the first time. Now, nearly a year later, the company is adding to the line with the introduction of the FJ Flex XP and the FJ Flex LE1.
The most significant feature of the new XP is a lightweight performance mesh upper that also happens to be waterproof. “Offering (that) was a critical addition to the Flex family, with further enhancements to improve the overall design,” says Richard Fryer, the company's director of product management, footwear. “This product will excite FJ Flex wearers, and those looking for unrivaled versatility on any surface and in all weather conditions.”
Among the other features of the Flex XP is a high-density EVA fit bed and bootie-fit construction that is designed to provide a sock-like fit. Fryer calls the styling “sporty,” and adds that the shoe employs a Versa-Trax outsole with a web of multi-dimensional, strategically placed traction elements designed for both on- and off-course wear.
As for the new LE1, it is a limited-edition suede offering with a contemporary wingtip blucher upper that comes in three color options: tan, grey and navy blue. The shoe also employs translucent rubber traction elements to bolster both performance and versatility, as well as a soft, supportive EVA midsole.
