Technicians say that the idea behind the latest club release from Callaway was to create “a hybrid that can deliver the power of a fairway wood.” Hence the club’s name, Super Hybrid, and it possesses what they describe as several groundbreaking innovations.
The first is a high-strength titanium face insert, to promote “fast, all-out speed and optimized spin and flight.” And they made that component work with Callaway’s popular Jailbreak technology, which uses a pair of internal bars to put more “impact load” in the face insert to bolster ball speeds even more.
That construction also allowed those technicians to position the center of gravity more precisely so the Super Hybrid produces a more consistent and penetrating launch. The inclusion of a lighter triaxial carbon fabric in the crown also helps in that regard, while combining with tungsten weights in the heel and toe to enhance the moment of inertia for greater forgiveness. In addition, a lighter OptiFit 3 hosel is intended to make it even easier to achieve the best possible launch and ball flight.
The Super Hybrids are available in lofts of 17, 20 and 23 degrees, and in both right- and left-handed versions.
