According to Cleveland Golf technicians, the venerable Launcher line always has stood for one thing, and that is launching a golf ball high in the air and straight down the fairway. As far as they are concerned the latest woods to bear that name – the Launcher HB Turbo drivers and fairways – do just that, but with new technologies designed to make them longer and straighter than before.
“These clubs represent a huge step up from the previous generation,” says Brian Schielke, marketing director at Cleveland Golf. “They’re sleeker, faster and more forgiving.”
Adds Jeff Brunski, the company’s vice president of research and development: “We’ve squeezed discretionary weight out of every corner of the clubhead in order to produce one of the most forgiving drivers we have ever made. We’ve also paired it with a high balance point that is easier to swing fast. Authentic technologies such as the Turbocharged Cup Face, the Ultralight Hosel and a more aerodynamic crown all help the Launcher HB Turbo earn its name.”
Company technicians say all of those advances are found in the new drivers as well as the new fairways. The Turbocharged Cup Face uses a variable thickness pattern made to produce more speed, flexing at impact and reflecting the energy back into the ball. A redesigned HiBore crown lowers the center of gravity, the technicians add, while the Ultralight Hosel allows them to reposition mass to a more effective spot. The result is a CG that is deeper and lower, which is designed to increase launch at impact and maximize distance off the tee.
The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo driver is available is two models: Standard, in lofts of 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees; and Draw, which comes only in 10.5 degrees. As for the fairways, they are offered in 3-wood (15 degrees) and 5-wood (18 degrees) versions.
