Louisville, KY - After a stretch of unfavorable weather, the sun was shining on Thursday, March 19th to highlight Kentucky’s first PGA ABLE Clinic at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club. PGA ABLE (Abilities Beyond Life’s Expectations) launched in the Gateway Section in 2023, bringing golf to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities who might not have otherwise access to it. For the inaugural PGA ABLE Clinic in Kentucky, partnering with Saint Mary’s Center (SMC) in Louisville couldn’t have worked out better.
When Kim Shafer, PGA, Kentucky PGA Professional and Senior Player Engagement Consultant for the PGA of America, heard about PGA ABLE, she knew it was something she had to get involved with. The Louisville native had a personal connection to the cause with her brother Chad being one of the 45 participants from SMC. Shafer helped round up 9 PGA Professionals, who are PGA HOPE Certified Instructors, to join the cause and instruct at this clinic.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate the first PGA ABLE Clinic in Kentucky. A special thank you to everyone who came out to help, SMC Regina’s Center for partnering with us for this great event, and to Chick-Fil-A for donating lunches to enjoy afterwards. We are excited to see this program continue to grow and reach more individuals across the entire state of Kentucky.

Louisville, KY – On February 9th and 10th the Kentucky PGA launched our Inaugural KPGA Annual Summit at the Louisville Marriott East for our Members & Associates. Transitioning into a two-day format gives the opportunity for more networking, education, and vendor engagement for everyone involved!
Day 1 kicked off with world renowned thought leader David Nurse, where our attendees really ‘Got in the Zone!’ After an exciting and thought provoking morning, we heard from our new class of KPGA Leadership in our business meeting. This transitioned into honoring our 2026 Class of Special Award Winners during lunch and a continued celebration ceremony. We wrapped up Monday with afternoon breakout sessions and a vendor cocktail hour. Day 2 started with Rick Murphy, PGA to discuss different functional movement techniques that apply to teaching and coaching. The day continued with great networking and breakout sessions for everyone to continue education on all aspects.
Throughout the entire Summit, members were encouraged to visit our Vendor Show to meet exclusively with over 40 different vendors. This allowed them to set individual meetings or drop by to see the newest product on the market. Overall, this event was a great success for its inaugural launch. We are excited to see ways we can enhance this event moving forward. The KPGA will be returning to the Louisville Marriott East in February of 2027 for the next Annual Summit!
