Former tennis player Mardy Fish reeled in his second American Century Championship title in July, holding off former San Jose Sharks star Joe Pavelski by four points at Edgewood Tahoe.
Playing in a Stableford format, Fish tallied 26 points in the final round to come in at 83, one point short of the record score of 82 set by former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver in 2010.
“I’ve won a few of the celebrity golf tournaments, so I felt comfortable coming into here,” said Fish, who also won in 2020. “This is the one you really want to win. American Century is really the Super Bowl, culminating the rest of the year.”
Former LPGA Tour star Annika Sorenstam, who lives part-time in Tahoe, was third at 68 after a 27-point round.
Fan favorite Charles Barkley had his best showing in the event in more than 25 years, tying for 58th with minus-4 points.
“The last couple of years actually haven’t been bad,” Barkley said.
