St. Mary’s senior Mitchell Hoey and Lana Yamagata, a high school senior from Southern California, were the big winners at the annual San Francisco City Championship at TPC Harding Park.
Hoey needed all 36 holes before defeating Angelo Marcon, 1-up, in the men’s finals. After see-sawing throughout the day, on the 36th hole (No.18) Marcon put his tee shot into the lake, leading to a double-bogey. Hoey made bogey to secure the title.
Hoey, who was coming off a win at the 2025 AmateurGolf.com Pacific Grove Championship, in December won the San Diego Amateur.
Yamagata, who’s committed to University-Nevada Las Vegas for the fall, also had a close match, squeaking by Nicole Iniakov, 2 and 1, in the finals.
In the Senior Men’s Championship, Steve Johnson defeated 2025 stroke play qualifying medalist Robert Funk 2-up to win the title. Funk won the 2021 NCGA Senior Amateur Championship at Spyglass Hill.
In the Senior Women’s Championship, the top two seeds battled for the championship, with No. 2 seed Melissa Spencer defeating No. 1 Kate Zhang, 2 and 1.
The Super Senior Men’s title went to Jee Duncan, who defeated 2024 champion Matt Vukevich on the 19th hole.
