Since 2015, the Colorado Golf Association has been partnering with the American Junior Golf Association to host an annual junior competition with the goal of ensuring Colorado kids have the opportunity to compete against a national field in their own backyard. Last year was the official announcement Colorado native and PGA Tour member, Wyndham Clark financially underwriting the tournament from 2024 through 2028 with a gift of $250,000. To honor his generosity the tournament was renamed The Wyndham Clark presented by the Colorado Golf Association. Proceeds from the tournament fund the Colorado Golf Foundation and AJGA Foundation, the charitable arms of the CGA and AJGA respectively.
Last year, this event, held in partnership with the City of Westminster at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, was recognized by the AJGA with their “Game Changer Award”. The AJGA’s Game Changer Award is presented to an event that consistently enhances the tournament experience each year it is held and recognizes exceptional efforts in areas such as hospitality, fundraising, and volunteer support. This recognition would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of everyone at Walnut Creek led by CGA Board member Lance Johnson, the Parks, Golf, and Open Space Manager for the City of Westminster and Brian Carlson, PGA, AGM Head Golf Professional of Walnut Creek. Walnut Creek’s amazing volunteers and tournament committee help plan and fundraise for this event. The award is extremely well deserved and recognizes years of effort to host this high-quality junior player development opportunity.
Every year, golfers can support and participate in this event through the annual Junior-Am which pairs golfers with one of the juniors competing in the event.
