Golf has been a part of my life for 46 years. During that time, it has grown from a game I enjoyed playing into something far more meaningful. Golf has shaped my friendships, influenced my professional life, fueled my love of travel and become a shared passion within my family. As we welcome members to the 113th year of the Chicago District Golf Association’s (CDGA) existence, it is both an honor and a privilege to do so as the 58th President of this historic organization and to kick off the 2026 golf year together.
The game of golf has introduced me to countless friends and business acquaintances over the years – relationships that often began with a handshake on the first tee and grew well beyond the course. Golf has given me the opportunity to compete in tournaments across the region and beyond, combining competition with my love of travel. Many of my favorite memories come from experiencing new courses and communities, all connected by a shared respect for the traditions and values of the game.
One of the most meaningful parts of my golf journey has been seeing the game become part of my family’s life. I am fortunate to share golf with my wife, our two children and now our two grandchildren. Watching multiple generations enjoy golf together reinforces what makes it so special – it truly is a lifelong sport. Golf has given our family lasting memories.
My involvement with the CDGA began 15 years ago, and throughout that time, I’ve had the privilege of serving the Association in a variety of roles. I’ve served as a Director, participated on several committees – including Finance, Rules, Competition and Scholarship – and currently serve as chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and a Trustee of the CDGA Foundation. These opportunities have given me a firsthand view of the CDGA’s impact – not only through competition and services, but also through its commitment to giving back through the CDGA Foundation.
The CDGA Foundation plays a vital role in expanding the game’s reach and impact across our community. Through funding and support, the Foundation helps make possible Sunshine Camps, veterans programs, adaptive golf initiatives and scholarships for young adults. These programs reflect the best of what golf can offer – opportunity, inclusion, healing and growth. They ensure that golf is accessible to individuals and families who might not otherwise have the chance to experience the game, while also investing in the next generation of leaders.
As a USGA-certified rules official, I’ve also developed a deep appreciation for the structure and stewardship that preserve the integrity of the game. From championships to course ratings, the work done by our staff and volunteers behind the scenes is essential. Their dedication ensures fairness, consistency and enjoyment for golfers at every level, and it is the foundation that allows the game to thrive.
As we begin the 2026 golf year, the CDGA remains focused on continued growth and expanding our reach through inclusion. Golf is strongest when it is welcoming and accessible, and inclusivity will continue to be a guiding principle. We are committed to creating opportunities for more people and families to engage with the game – whether they are longtime members or picking up a club for the first time.
Championship golf remains a cornerstone of the CDGA’s mission, offering meaningful competitive opportunities while honoring the traditions of sportsmanship and respect. Equally important is our Course Rating program, which plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the handicap system and ensuring fair play throughout the District.
We also continue to connect with our members in new and engaging ways. Through Chicago District Golfer magazine, the annual Chicago Golf Show® presented by the CDGA and our growing presence on social media, we share stories, highlight our members and clubs and keep the golf community informed and connected year-round.
I am optimistic about the year ahead. The strength of this Association lies in its employees, members, volunteers, clubs and partners, whose passion and commitment continue to inspire me. On behalf of the CDGA, I welcome you to another year of great golf, shared experiences and continued growth. I look forward to seeing you on the course and throughout the 2026 season.
