➜ The University of Minnesota Duluth College Chapter held a traditional sap boil, tying the event to Native American history and culture and working toward the chapter’s goal of engaging the wider university community with activities and events that are culturally relevant and STEM related. Ojibwe families traditionally gather in early spring to boil down maple sap.
➜ The University of South Dakota College Chapter prepared a traditional meal for Winona LaDuke, noted activist, environmentalist, economist, and co-founder of Honor the Earth, and singer and songwriter Annie Humphrey. The dinner was hosted by the school’s Native American Cultural Center. LaDuke and Humphrey were invited to speak at the Vermillion campus in April as part of the community’s Earth Days celebration.
➜ The College Chapter at North Dakota State University in Fargo joined forces with the Native American Student Association in February in a frybread taco sale to raise funds to support travel to conferences as well as travel for tribal college students to visit NDSU.
