➜ Northern Arizona University News has reported that Dr. Naomi Lee is part of a team funded by the National Institutes of Health to research a therapeutic vaccine to treat opioid dependency. This pilot program may be the basis for funding future research projects. Dr. Lee, named the 2018 AISES Professional of the Year, is a chemical biologist who is on the faculty at NAU. She is also a captain in the Army National Guard.
➜ In addition to competing in the AISES National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair, pre-college members from the Geo Team at the Shawnee Middle School in Shawnee, Okla., presented their projects — all of which incorporate geographic information system (GIS) technology — at the National Geographic Geo Challenge, GIS Day in the state capital, and the online Globe Symposium.
➜ Sequoyah Fellow Regal Leftwich was a featured speaker and session presenter at the 2019 Lab Design Conference in April. Leftwich is an architect and laboratory planner with the Smith-Group in Washington, D.C.
