➜ As a member of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, AISES Council of Elders member Dr. Henrietta Mann participated in Lift the Earth: Bringing Peace to Our Ancestors. This four-day event included prayer circles, teachings on ancestral healing, and discussions of environmental issues and future generations. Council of Elders member Phil Lane Jr. also participated in the event.
➜ In May, Outside magazine’s online edition featured an article about cyclist Alexandera Houchin: “She Learned to Bike at 20. Now She’s a Champion.” Houchin is a student at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
➜ High Eagle Technologies, a business in which AISES founding member Jerry Elliott High Eagle is the principal, has been granted a patent for a medical device that has multiple applications, including in cancer treatment and sanitizing stored blood supplies.
➜ AISES Director of Business and Development Kellie Jewett-Fernandez was featured in a Newswise article about the American Indian Entrepreneurship program at Gonzaga University, where she earned an MBA.
➜ Dana Lamberton is among the first cohort to participate in the “3-plus-2” joint engineering degree program established in 2016 by the University of North Carolina Pembroke and North Carolina State University. To graduate with degrees from both institutions, participants spend three years at UNCP and two years at NCSU. Lamberton, a former First Nations Launch participant who is studying mechanical engineering, is now transitioning to NCSU for her final two years. She will graduate with a BS in physics from UNCP and a BS in engineering from NCSU.
