Mobile Command Center equips first responders on location
Handling emergency situations and weather events just got a little easier for South Jersey Gas employees with the addition of a new mobile command center.
Utility officials said the idea for the command center came from real-life emergency situations where response could have been enhanced with a mobile hub.
“Our operations department [and] our procurement department ... really worked together to come up with a solution to be better first responders and more efficient when we’re faced with emergencies,” South Jersey Gas President Dave Robbins said in an interview with SNJ Today.
The command center will allow responders to get critical information within seconds, Tom Harrell, senior director of distribution and pipeline operations for South Jersey Gas, told SNJ Today. “It’s all computerized right there at the location, and it’s all the most modern technology that we can find,” he said.
Each design element built in the 31-foot unit is intended to help a specific need in emergency situations on the road. The unit includes special features such as white and red LED lighting inside that is easier on the eyes at night, four workstations, a conference room and a large LED television.
