Southwest Gas volunteers invest in the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona
TUCSON—At Southwest Gas, employees are so dedicated to community outreach they have established a team name for their volunteer projects: BLUE, for “Building Lives Up Everywhere.”
The BLUE team in the Tucson area has organized and staffed nearly 40 community service projects, including tree planting, assembling food boxes for local pantries and donating blood. The group recently swung into action to help the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona, which offers diapers and other sanitary supplies to those in need—from infants to seniors.
Launched in 1994, the Diaper Bank was the first of its kind in the country and distributes more than 1 million diapers and related items each year. In addition to providing one-on-one services, the organization partners with a variety of other service agencies, including crisis nurseries, domestic-violence shelters and senior centers.
Tucson BLUE’s recent involvement with the Diaper Bank included teaming up with family and friends to donate 17,000 diapers. The team also packaged up 34,000 diapers for distribution. “We are honored to help the Diaper Bank fulfill its important mission in our community,” Southwest Gas posted on its Facebook page. —Bob Bittner
