AGA ends its 100th year with a clang
The American Gas Association culminated its 100th anniversary with a clang when AGA Chair Jim Torgerson and former President and CEO Dave McCurdy, who retired in February, rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 23.
“It was pretty exciting for us and a great way to bring attention to AGA and celebrate the legacy of our members,” Gary Gardner, AGA vice president, corporate affairs and corporate secretary, told American Gas.
AGA and its members have long played a part in America’s economic prosperity. Of the 12 original companies that made up the Dow Jones Industrial Average, AGA has two members that were on that list—WEC (formerly Chicago Gas Company and North American Company) and Spire (formerly Laclede Gas).
Consolidated Edison, formerly New York Gas and Light—an original founding member of AGA, along with WEC and Spire—holds the record as the longest-listed stock on the NYSE. John McAvoy, chairman, president and CEO of Con Edison, joined in the festivities on the podium.
“This was a great way to kick off Jim’s term as chairman and honor Dave’s culmination of service,” Gardner said. —Carolyn Kimmel
