2018 AGA Playbook includes digital, real-time content
Did you know that the nation’s natural gas utilities install two miles of pipeline every hour and invest $700 every second to help enhance the safety of natural gas distribution and transmission systems?
These and many other facts are featured in the 2018 AGA Playbook, which is distributed at energy events and to policymakers throughout the United States. It is also a content resource for natural gas utilities to use in their messaging, just as the American Gas Association does throughout the year, developing social media content and graphics for myriad communications vehicles.
AGA has several goals in mind when producing the annual AGA Playbook, according to Jake Rubin, senior director, public relations and executive communications at AGA.
“The first is to put in one place a common set of facts to help inform energy conversations taking place throughout the country. We refresh many of the statistics for each new edition, drawing on new AGA studies and updated government data and reports,” Rubin said.
The second goal of the AGA Playbook is to present the data in a visually compelling way. This year, AGA made the playbook part of its ongoing digital conversation, available online at Playbook.aga.org.
“We began that practice in previous years with NaturalGasHome.aga.org. This year, we have incorporated several ongoing AGA digital initiatives like YourEnergyAmerica.com, CookingWithGas.org and UtilitiesUnited.org,” Rubin said.
Also new this year, AGA developed two exclusive digital features that provide unique data online. AGA is tracking activities by natural gas utilities in real time, including consumption across all sectors in the United States, through ByTheNumbers.aga.org. AGA also developed a multilayer, interactive map that contains information on natural gas supply and state-based infrastructure modernization programs, which can be accessed at Map.aga.org.
AGA Playbooks are shipped to members at their request. Many members reach out to AGA to build unique partnerships and use playbook content for outreach to their various audiences, Rubin said.
“When we see that something from the AGA Playbook has been used in an article or cited in a rate case, we get a great sense of pride. That is what the AGA Playbook is developed for—to help natural gas utilities tell their story,” he said.
