At Kennesaw State University the number of students opting to live on campus is growing, and the housing options are expanding to meet that demand. Along with recently breaking ground on a new hall scheduled to open next year, the campus also unveiled its renovated Howell Hall.
With 288 beds, the renovated hall caters to first-year students, with updated lounges, study spaces, and kitchenettes on each floor. There are group study lounges on the second and fourth floors with study nooks on the second, third, and fourth floors. It also is a Georgia Peach-Certified Building which means that, in addition to being more energy-efficient and sustainable, the project relied heavily on products from Georgia including the carpet, LVT, and marble.
“Beyond meeting the needs of our growing student population, the new-look Howell Hall aligns with KSU’s mission of generating ways students can build a sense of community on campus and support their peers,” says KSU Interim President Kathy Schwaig in a statement. “From group study spaces to enhanced safety features, it reflects our dedication to creating not only a home, but also a first-class learning and living environment for students.”
The hall originally was built in 1965 and, during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, was home to a number of competing athletes.
