Mayberry Days Festival Coming Soon
Step back in time as Downtown Mount Airy, North Carolina, transforms into the charming world of The Andy Griffith Show during the annual Mayberry Days Festival, Sept. 22-28, 2025. Since 1990, this family-friendly event has celebrated the show’s legacy with music, games, pork chop sandwiches and the beloved Mayberry Days Parade. Gaylord Hotels’ iconic Christmas attraction, ICE!, returns to six resorts nationwide for the 2025 holiday season. This frosty spectacle features over 2 million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures, bringing beloved holiday classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Polar Express™, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! to life. Guests can enjoy immersive scenes, thrilling ice slides, and vibrant displays crafted by master artisans from Harbin, China. Each resort offers unique holiday activities, including Cirque-style shows, ice tubing, scavenger hunts, and festive dining. ICE! will be hosted at Gaylord resorts in Nashville, Kissimmee, National Harbor, Aurora, Grapevine, and San Antonio from November through early January. Tickets and packages are available now. Illinois Invites Visitors to Get Their Kicks on Route 66 in 2026
Illinois is gearing up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 with new attractions, events and experiences honoring the iconic highway. From Chicago to the Chain of Rocks Bridge, the state is embracing the centennial with passion and pride.
Highlights include restored Route 66 icons, interactive exhibits and quirky roadside attractions like the Gemini Giant in Wilmington and Shea’s Gas Station Museum in Springfield. Granite City will unveil larger-than-life sculptures, while Springfield will host the International Route 66 Mother Road Festival and the Great Race classic car rally.
Travelers can explore new murals and even a restored stretch of 1920s-era pavement in Carpenter Park. Electric vehicle drivers can enjoy the “Zero Emissions on Route 66” itinerary, featuring charging stations along the route.
The year-long celebration will culminate in signature events, including the Illinois State Fair, Route 66 Bike Race and the Route 66 Centennial Conference. “This is a statewide invitation to rediscover the magic of the open road,” said Cory Jobe, Chair of the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Commission.
